The library is defined by a custom-built wooden structure, framed into the room to form a box-like enclosure. This design creates an intimate, cozy space for reading and reflection, while maintaining a strong visual connection with the surrounding area.
Books are integrated into the structure, both below the seating and along the back wall, emphasizing functionality and a seamless spatial organization. Subtle lighting enhances the warmth of the wood and defines the space without overwhelming it.
The commission arose from the need to make use of a corner of the home that had no defined purpose. In just twelve square meters, the project organizes sitting, reading and storage into a single piece of joinery, where every shelf, bench and niche responds to a dimension designed for the body and for the books it holds.
The wood, worked with the same tone and grain across all its surfaces, brings continuity and warmth and turns the furniture into architecture. Openings are framed from within the structure, so natural light enters in a controlled way and accompanies different moments of the day. The built-in seat, with cushions and textiles in neutral tones, invites people to linger and turns the library into the calmest place in the house.
The intervention transforms the library into a quiet retreat within the house, where materiality, scale, and careful framing create a sense of enclosure while preserving openness and connection to the rest of the home.
